Seaside Heights continues to try and shed its party image portrayed on MTV's “Jersey Shore” a decade ago, passing an ordinance prohibiting nightclubs and bars on the northern boardwalk.
Town leaders hope the new quiet zone will help attract families to the town.
“We don't want activity of the past such as Snooki’s rowdiness nightclub activity loud noises at 3:00 in the morning,” says Mayor Tony Vaz.
Thanks to a new ordinance passed unanimously Wednesday night, the area between Hancock and Hiering avenues will stay quiet once the summer crowds arrive.
“We don't want open rooftop decks, loud noise in the morning,” says Mayor Vaz. “That's not for this area.”
The new ordinance bans outdoor bars, nightclubs, and amusement rides along the six block stretch of boards.
The mayor says there was some opposition from several business owners, but he expects their property values to actually increase thanks to this new ordinance.
The ordinance goes into effect immediately.
