Teen shot by Roselle cop released from hospital
The teen who was shot by Roselle police was wheeled out of a Newark hospital Tuesday on his long road to recovery.
Marquise Randle, 16, held a football signed by his Plainfield High School teammates and wore medals he won during his track days. He was taken to Children?s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside for rehabilitation.
Doctors are unsure whether the former athlete will ever regain full use of his legs, saying bullet fragments are lodged near Randle's spine. However, they add the teen has had limited movement in a leg and toes.
As Randle starts rehabilitation, his family hinted at a possible lawsuit. "I want the police department, I want the officer to be held accountable for shooting my son ? and striking him in the forehead," said Khisha Bethea, the victim's mother and Plainfield police officer.
According to police, Officer Craig Howlett's gun accidentally fired Nov. 16 while he was answering a call, shooting a bullet that hit the teen.Related information:
