Teen injured in hit-and-run in Cranbury; police seek driver
Middlesex County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest in a hit-and-run case.
Cranbury resident Mia Huang, 13, and her dog were struck by a person driving a 2008 or 2009 beige Ford Expedition while walking on May 10 around 6:15 p.m.
Police say that the teen and her dog were walking near Main Street and Evans Drive when they were hit by the car. Huang was thrown about 15 feet and landed underneath a car that did stop. She suffered a concussion, cuts and bruises. The dog, Panda, was killed.
Witnesses say that the driver of the Expedition was a white man with a beard. Witnesses say that he drove away after striking the teen and her dog.
“The fact that someone could just hit and leave is really disturbing and appalling to me,” says neighbor Jim Dixon.
Dixon says that speeding on Main Street is a problem, although the speed limit is 25 mph.
Signs saying “Slow down” have been posted along the road where Mia was hit by Cranbury police, at the urging of Claudette Guy, Main Street homeowner.
"It feels like it’s becoming a systematic problem here in town,” Guy says.
Neighbors along Main Street say that traffic has increased as commuters use it as a cut-through from Route 130 to Route 1. Guy says that more police patrols are needed and perhaps speed bumps.
“We seem to have lot of people commuting through town and they’re not paying attention to the fact that this is a town,” she says.
In addition to the reward offered by Crime Stoppers, Huang’s father is also offering up to $5,000 for information that can find the person responsible for injuring his daughter.
Anyone who might have any information about the hit-and-run is asked to call Middlesex County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-939-9600.
