Teaneck officials are taking some extra precautions to protect the town’s residents after three people from Teaneck contracted coronavirus COVID-19.
The town municipal complex is undergoing a thorough cleaning and all court proceedings have been canceled.
“We have four court sessions during the week and the courtroom is generally filled to capacity,” says Teaneck Town Manager Dean Kazinci. “There really isn’t that social distance space, people sit shoulder to shoulder.”
The Teaneck coronavirus patients include a 70-year-old man who is being treated at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, as well as a 30-year-old man and a 44-year-old who are being treated at Holy Name Medical Center in Passaic.
Kazinci says that he hopes no one else from Teaneck gets the virus. He says that he wants to protect the 41,000 town residents and 500 employees.

“For now, just limit your interactions here at the municipal building. That would be greatly appreciated,” he says.
This includes the town’s library, which has canceled or rescheduled large group events. The town has also canceled all senior activities at the community center. The elderly are particularly vulnerable to the virus.
Sandi Silverberg is president of the group “Friends of the Library” – which serves Teaneck’s “seasoned” residents. She says that she appreciates the efforts.
“It’ll be a small price to pay if we save lives if we have to cancel a concert,” she says.

The closings and cancellations are until further notice. The town says that it will re-evaluate its plans as more information about coronavirus is made available. More information can be found on the town’s website.
New Jersey currently has 23 cases of coronavirus spread around the state. One person has died – a 69-year-old Little Ferry man who had other underlying health issues.
