A Teaneck lab technician is accused Monday of having sex with a corpse in the morgue.

Police say Anthony Merino, 24, of New York City, was spotted by a security guard at Holy Name Hospital on top of a 92-year-old deceased woman. The guard reported the incident to police and Merino was later arrested.

The hospital notified the woman's family about the incident. In a statement, hospital officials said, "This heinous crime is a travesty. We are horrified and saddened for the family of the patient." The hospital spokesperson says Merino, who was a new part-time hire, did undergo reference checks and a criminal background check.

Merino is charged with having sex with human remains. He is being held on $400,000 bail and is undergoing psychiatric evaluations.
