Suspected bomber Ahmad Rahami to be arraigned Thursday
The man wounded in a shootout with police after allegedly setting off bombs in New Jersey and New York will be arraigned Thursday.
Ahmad Khan Rahami's arraignment will be held at the Union County Courthouse, but he will not physically be there.
Rahami is still recovering at University Hospital in Newark. His arraignment will be done via Skype from his hospital bed.
Details on his condition have not been released but his American Civil Liberties Union attorney, Alexander Shalom, says he is well enough to face charges.
Police arrested Rahami after a bar owner found him sleeping in the doorway of his bar in Linden on Sept. 19. The owner then called police, ending in a shootout and Rahami's capture.
He faces five counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer as well as two weapon charges.
Two officers were injured in the shootout.
Rahami is already facing federal charges for allegedly detonating bombs the weekend before the shootout.
The first bomb exploded in a trash bin in Seaside Park along the route of the Semper Five Marine charity race before it started. No one was injured.
Then another bomb went off in New York City's Chelsea neighborhood later that day. The blast injured 29 people shortly before a second suspicious device was found nearby. That second bomb did not detonate.
The ACLU is representing Rahami on federal charges.
It's unclear who will be representing him on the state charges at Thursday's arraignment.
