The person or persons responsible for stealing stop signs in a Bergen County town have struck again.

Stop signs at the intersection of Grove Street and Stevens Avenue in Ridgewood were recently replaced after someone stole them.

Sign theft has been a running problem in Ridgewood. The situation got so out of hand last year that the police department offered an amnesty program. People were allowed to return stolen signs without getting penalized.

Officials say that the program was successful, but that thefts are up again now that the summer has returned.

Ridgewood residents say that they just wish the thefts would stop.

"Especially since it's a family oriented community. Safety is a big concern," says resident Richard Hensel. "Just driving you see a lot of people disregard things so without signs it's very dangerous."

Police say that they do not plan on bringing back the amnesty program.
