Summer Juvenile Curfew Initiative begins in Newark

<p>Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, as well as Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, announced that beginning Friday night officials will enforce the Summer Juvenile Curfew Initiative through Labor Day.</p>

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, as well as Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, announced that beginning Friday night officials will enforce the Summer Juvenile Curfew Initiative through Labor Day.
People under the age of 18 who are more than 100 yards from their residence from 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the following day and found by a police officer will be brought back to the police station.
They will later be released to their parent or guardian.
The juvenile, along with the parent or guardian, will be issued a written warning that will be kept on file with police for six months.
A second infraction during the period will result in the juvenile's arrest.
Fines can range from $100 to $1,000.
