September is National Suicide Prevention Month. To commemorate the month, a Memphis musician will be donated a portion of the proceeds from his new single to the New Jersey chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
“If there’s any real message that I would say is that we are human beings need to be more tuned into other people that may not outwardly show that they’re having issues or suicidal thoughts,” says rock ‘n’ roll musician Zach Bair.
Bair says that others also need to be comfortable reaching out to one another to ask if they are OK. Bair’s latest EP was released to coincide with National Suicide Prevention Month. He says that the cause is a personal one.
“We lost a young employee at one of our venues to suicide and she was only like 28 years old and nobody expected it,” he says. “It hit everybody like really, really hard.”
The single “Ordinary Girl” is promoting suicide awareness.
“The girl in the song thinks she’s ordinary. But by the time she gets through and has some help and some love around her, she realizes she’s not ordinary. She’s extraordinary,” says Bair.
Bair says that he will donate 20% of all proceeds from his single to New Jersey Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
“One thing that we all will be doing with those proceeds is investing that money back into our communities by hosting free educational programming…It’s more important than ever that we be there for each other and take steps to prevent suicide,” says American Foundation for Suicide Prevention area director Elizabeth Clemens.
Bair says that he hopes that his contribution will be an important step towards achieving that goal.
