The Bayonne School District will announce in a few days its plan to reopen for the upcoming school year.
The district laid out a few possible plans at a meeting on Tuesday night and will announce a final decision by Aug. 4.
The reopening options include:
  1. Full remote-learning.
  2. A hybrid model where students will be split into three groups and alternate between in-person and remote learning every two days.
  3. Having students return to school normally and have their parents decide if they want their children to remain home.
“It will be a challenge to get the kids in the building. It will be a challenge to keep them socially distant. It will be a challenge to keep them safe every day…and the worst thing we can do it put a child in harm’s way,” Superintendent John Niesz said.
Some members of the Board of Education said that none of the three plans are ideal.
“From looking at the three plans, I would like to see us stay on virtual until at least the first semester to see where this country is going and see where this state is going,” said Board of Ed Trustee Ava Finnerty.
The district says that it needs the state Department of Education’s approval for its first plan of going fully remote, which they consider to be the safest option.
If that option is not approved, they will have to choose from one of the other options.
