A transformer fire in Old Bridge Township knocked out power for hundreds of people early Friday.
The fire happened along Matawan Road around midnight in the Laurence Harbor section of town. Crews put the ground fire out, but a power outage then occurred.
The lines affected service for two apartment complexes. Up to 500 people are now without lights or air conditioning.
"I had no power," says Old Bridge resident Joe Faila. "It was hot in my house, my apartment was hot."
Meanwhile, overnight thunderstorms also left thousands in New Jersey without power.
Management of the complexes has been in contact with JCP&L crews.
