The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission office in Wayne had to close early on Monday after it was discovered that an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

A spokesperson for the MVC says that the location will be cleaned and sanitized, and employees who were exposed to the employee who tested positive for the virus will quarantine for 14 days.

“The health and safety of our customers and employees is our top priority,” said Chief Administrator Sue Fulton. “We will monitor the situation at Wayne and work closely with health officials to reopen on July 28, once we have verified a safe and healthy environment for the public and MVC employees.”

Long lines have formed outside of various MVC locations across the state ever since offices reopened earlier this month. MVC officials say that customers should visit the MVC website to see if any of their business can be conducted online.

The expiration date for licenses and registrations has also been pushed back to accommodate the backlog.
