The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office says that electricity did not play a part in a drowning incident that left three family members dead in East Brunswick earlier this week.
Bharat Patel, 62, his 33-year old daughter-in-law Nisha Patel and her 8-year-old daughter died Monday while swimming in the pool in the backyard of their Clearview Road home. They were pronounced dead shortly after first responders arrived and performed CPR.
“The above-ground pool was mostly shallow at 3½ feet deep, but there was a portion of the pool that was 7 feet deep. It doesn’t appear that the victims knew how to swim,” a spokesperson for the prosecutor said in a statement.
Investigators have ruled the deaths as accidental.
