Salons, barbers, massage and tattoo parlors reopen from COVID-19 pause

Salons, barber shops, and massage and tattoo parlors in New Jersey have reopened from their COVID-19 pause, becoming the latest businesses Monday authorized to open shop since the outbreak hit the state in early March.

Gov. Phil Murphy’s executive order requires masks are to be worn inside the businesses and for service to be by appointment only.
Gov. Murphy has moved the state into stage two. He said Monday the plans to move to stage three could be announced soon.

Allentown Mayor Thomas Fritts got his head shaved Monday at Joe's Allentown Barbershop to celebrate barber shops reopening.
He also raised money for a fundraiser that will provide at least 1,000 surgical masks to first responders, residents and business owners. The borough also honored community heroes with local gift certificates.
In Paterson, Mayor Andre Sayegh wanted to demonstrate new safety protocol with salons and personal care facilities back open. So, he went for a haircut at Palestine Salon to demonstrate what a new normal looks like.
"I wanted to make sure that everything is being done properly,” says Mayor Sayegh. “You can see there is plexiglass that is protecting everyone. They are keeping physical distance, there is physical distancing taking place. He's got gloves on. He's got a mask, and who better than barbers and beauticians because that's what they specialize in, sanitizing and disinfecting.

The salon's owner says he's using disposable razors, towels and capes. They're thrown away after each use.
