Hoboken PD Chief: Floyd death hurt police-community relations across the country
1,094ds agoStudents led a rally today in Monroe Township in the name of George Floyd.
Hundreds from the township, as well as surrounding communities, were at Thompson Park to show unity and promote change.
Local leaders spoke, and the crowd kneeled in solidarity.
The demonstration was put on by three college students who graduated last year from Monroe Township High School.
"Police brutality is just one aspect,” says rally organizer Lola Sagoe. “So, I really hope that people take away that this is something you have to fight for every day, not just at protests, not just at demonstrations. You have to live this. You have breathe this. You have to believe this every day of your life because black lives are at risk. Black lives have to matter. Yes, all lives matter, but they cannot matter until black lives matter."
The students say they plan to continue to hold demonstrations and forums to promote advocacy and accountability for the racial issues and injustices in the community.
