1,094ds agoDoctors and medical professionals in Newark came together to show their support for the Black Lives Matter movement Friday.
Around 200 hospital workers at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center observed 8 minutes and 46 seconds of silence, the same amount of time George Floyd spent in police custody where he died.
"It felt good to stand arm-and-arm with such a diverse population that we have here as employees," says Atiya Jaha-Rashidi, the director of diversity and inclusion at the hospital.

The effort was part of the center’s White Coats For Black Lives movement.
CEO Darrell Terry says the hospital will offer briefings and listening sessions for staff to keep an open dialogue about issues pertaining to race and civil rights.
"There are significant disparities in care, disparities in outcomes, and we need to recognize them and come up with solutions to make it better," says Terry.
Hospital officials say the entire RWJ Barnabas Health System is taking part in the effort.
