Residents placed flags Sunday for veterans who have died of COVID-19 in Paramus.
According to the state's Department of Health, nearly 200 residents at the New Jersey Veterans Home at Paramus tested positive for COVID-19, and nearly 80 of them have died.
The Passaic Valley Elks Lodge came together outside the senior home to pay tribute, as many were not able to see their families one more time.
Each flag placed in the ground represented a veteran who died due to the virus.
Organizers want to remind people that while Memorial Day has morphed into a day usually spent with families and friends, people should all take some time to reflect on the sacrifices veterans made for the U.S.
