One person was killed and seven others were injured during a two-alarm fire in Newark Friday night, according to officials.

Officials say about 70 firefighters responded to 105 Magazine St. shortly after 11 p.m. to the fire in the three-story residential building.

The fire was located on the second floor and spread to the third floor and then to an attached building at 107 Magazine St.

An adult man was killed during the fire and seven others, including one child, were transported to University Hospital for treatment.

Reports also say people were forced to jump out of their homes to safety.

Two victims were reportedly in critical condition. One of them is 64-year-old Maria Ciracini, who jumped three stories from her window onto the concrete below. She broke both of her legs and now requires surgery.

Ciracini's daughter, Daisy Lane D'Souza, says she couldn't believe it was her mother who had to jump out of the building.

"I can't believe it," D'Souza says. "I think its not her sometimes. I think it's not my mom--she's very strong. Thank God I never saw that--it's so scary."

Neighbors tell News 12 that Ciracini screamed for someone to put down a mattress before she jumped but it couldn't be done in time.

D'Souza says she believes the fire started as a grease fire, but that report is unconfirmed by officials.

A total of 15 people had to be relocated. The Red Cross is providing assistance to eight families following the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office and the Newark Fire Division Arson Unit.
