Bellmawr police issued citations to the owners of Atilis Gym for the third day in a row for violating Gov. Phil Murphy’s executive order.
A crowd of supporters gathered in the parking lot Wednesday morning as the gym opened for the third day. Gyms in New Jersey are not allowed to be opened during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Tuesday, a gym member was arrested and cited after he refused to give his name to police officers who stopped him. Other members were also stopped by police and will be mailed citations for violating the order.
“We’re going to be here every day and I’m assuming that [police] are going to come by sooner or later and they want to be as quiet as possible when they do it because they don’t want mud smeared in their face,” says Trumbetti.
The owners were also cited for creating a public nuisance.
The governor says that the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office is looking into the situation. He also says that a lot more needs to happen to slow the virus before gyms can reopen.
