If there was ever a song for these times in the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic, it would be Bruce Springsteen’s “Waitin’ On A Sunny Day.”
A group of musicians from the Asbury Park area has come together to record the song as a way of raising money for the Asbury Park Music Foundation.
“I think the message of the song really helps all these musicians feel a connection to each other,” says Joseph Pomarico, of Asbury Park-based Telegraph Hill Records. “There’s something to wait for. We’re not hopeless.”
Pomarico produced the video, which features some 30 musicians. Asbury Park is known for its rich musical history. Places like The Stone Pony are as much of the town’s legacy as the beaches and boardwalk. Pomarico says that this video is doing its part to continue that legacy.

Viewers are encouraged to donate to the Asbury Park Music Foundation, which provides free music education programs to children in Asbury Park. The foundation lost a major source of funding this year due to the pandemic.
“The Asbury Park Music and Film Festival is the single-largest fundraising event of the year. And that was unfortunately postponed. Last year that was a $100,000 donation to the Music Foundation,” says Tom Donovan with the festival.

Springsteen himself has commented about the video. He says, “Thanks to the local musicians of Asbury Park for their lovely version of ‘Waiting’ on a Sunny Day.’ God bless everyone and stay safe.”
