Powerful storms cause damage, power outages around New Jersey

A powerful thunderstorm caused lots of damage and knocked out power to thousands of New Jersey residents Tuesday afternoon.

A powerful thunderstorm caused lots of damage and knocked out power to thousands of New Jersey residents Tuesday afternoon.
The storm only lasted about 20 minutes, but strong winds and heavy rain caused fences, trees and utility poles to topple over.
The Sea Girt lifeguard station recorded a wind gust of 76 mph as the storm tore through the area.
Numerous News 12 New Jersey viewers sent in videos of hail falling.
Roads were closed in Manasquan and parts of southern Wall Township.
Utility companies were reporting more than 3,000 customers without power as of 10 p.m.
