Oceanside butcher shop holds grand opening amid COVID-19 crisis

Some eligible businesses are braving through the COVID-19 health crisis and opening their doors to the public for the first time regardless of the extensive business challenges that may come with it.
Sons of a Butcher, a family owned and operated butcher shop located on Brower Avenue in Oceanside, held its grand opening Saturday, March 28, taking all of the health and hygiene precautions it normally would and more.
The Barone family, of Franklin Square, is no stranger to butchery. The Barones say the craft has been in their family for three generations. Owner Vito Barone first went into butchery with his own father, and now is back in business with his son, Paul.
They say it was an honor to purchase the market from the previous owners of U-Need-A Prime Meat Market, which was a landmark location for over 60 years.

Sons of a Butcher is a full-service butcher shop that carries beef, veal, pork, lamb and poultry. They say their specialties range from USDA Prime, USDA Choice, antibiotic-free/organic poultry, and a variety of specialty meats.
“We were hesitant [to open] at first,” says one of the owners, Paul Barone. “But we decided to do what our family does best [butchering] and provide the community with fresh quality meat even under the present circumstances.”
The Barones say they will also be introducing a selection of New York locally and humanely raised grass-fed beef from Kinderhook Farm, along with pasture-raised pork, lamb and poultry.
Customers can also purchase prepared cooked meals, including various chicken and pasta dishes.
In light of recent concerns, Sons of a Butcher is offering curbside pickups and deliveries for orders of over $50.
“We change gloves between every transaction,” says Paul. “We constantly disinfect common areas, countertops, door knobs, scales, etc.”
Sons of a Butcher is open for business Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
