Police: Man who barricaded in Middle Island home, aimed rifle at police is ex-NYPD officer

Police confirmed two days after the incident that Malerba is a former NYPD officer who retired from the force.

Police confirmed Friday that a man who aimed a rifle at police Wednesday after barricading himself in a Middle Island home is a retired NYPD officer.
Suffolk police say they responded to a 911 call about a person who claimed an occupant of a Bailey Road home made suicidal statements.
Police, including members of the Hostage Negotiation Team, maintained a dialogue with the man who was barricaded inside, identified as Christopher Malerba.

Police say Malerba eventually exited the home and pointed a rifle at officers. Police then shot the man with non-lethal rounds, and he was transported to a hospital.
Police confirmed two days after the incident that Malerba is a former NYPD officer who retired from the force.
Malerba was charged menacing a police officer and will be arraigned at a later date.
