The departments are adjusting, while still doing what's best for themselves, and the community during the outbreak.
Officials can incorporate social distancing in the departments, however, asking them to change the vital roles they play in society can only go so far.

"For instance, two of my Under-Sheriffs are off site working remotely and will continue to do so," says Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden.
The people who work the 911 center in the county health department must continue their work on a day in, day out basis.
“None of our immediate staff in this facility are allowed over there, not even myself,” says Sheriff Golden. “So, I don't go into the 911 center. The 911 center is locked down for operators only."
All are making similar adjustments, from the volunteers who are putting together personal protective equipment for OEM coordinators in various towns for first responders to health department employees manning the phone bank and currently working out of the sheriff’s office.
This is also happening over at the jail.
"Now, there are no visitors,” says Sheriff Golden. “If attorneys come in, they use the phone to speak with the inmate."
Inmate temperature checks now happen every day as part of this new normal.
