New Jersey salons doing their part to stay sanitary amid coronavirus outbreak

Posted: Updated:

Beauty salons and barbershops across New Jersey are taking extra precautions to keep clients and staff healthy during the coronavirus outbreak.

William Robert Salon in Cherry Hill even closed shop for a little while to put an action plan into place.

“If somebody touches it, wipe it. If somebody leans up against it, spray it,” says owner William Moffett.

Moffett says that he is not taking any chances when it comes to the virus.

“Because of the close proximity that we have, that’s what made me a little nervous,” he says. “People could be shedding it and we may not know it and you’re right in their breathing passage.”

Moffett will close the salon until Tuesday so that his staff can sanitize and plan. The salon also does waxing and eyelash extensions in addition to hairstyling.

“We are literally a 3-foot radius of them at all times,” he says.

The salon has not had any exposure to the virus, and Moffett says that he hopes to keep it that way.

"Every 30 minutes we're going to be wiping everything down. Clients are going to have to wash their hands upon entering. No magazines,” he says.

Other salons in the Cherry Hill area say they're stepping up cleaning, one even providing clients with medical masks if they want them.

Camden County overall has at least two presumptive positive cases of coronavirus.
