Classic children’s story ‘Matilda’ coming to New Jersey stage

The classic children’s book “Matilda” is coming to the stage in New Jersey.
The title role will be played by 10-year-old Weehawken resident Elle Graper. Graper has played the character before in her native Houston. But has since moved to New Jersey to further pursue acting.
“Matilda” is a musical comedy based on the Roald Dahl book of the same name. It is the story of a precocious little girl who feels out of place and is looking for a place to belong.
“I think she has an incredible influence on kids,” Graper says. “That you can always write your own story and there’s no limit to what you can do.”
The musical is directed by Luis Salgado. It opens Friday at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center in Deal Township. It runs through March 22.
Ticket information can be found at the Axelrod PAC website.
