Police: 1 person dead in 3-vehicle crash on NJ Turnpike

Posted: Updated:

Police say one person has died in a three-vehicle crash on the New Jersey Turnpike.

The crash closed multiple lanes on the New Jersey Turnpike this morning and created a traffic backup that stretched back for four miles.

The crash happened just after 4 a.m. on the northbound side of the turnpike in Edison.

News 12 is told all three of the vehicle lanes were shut down, and people were on the highway for nearly two hours.

New Jersey state troopers directed drivers one-by-one to reverse their vehicles so they could eventually cross over into the turnpikes truck lanes.

Responders continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
