A 44-year-old Paterson man is facing charges for allegedly videotaping two women inside of a bathroom at the Clifton Barnes & Noble bookstore.
Juan Mejia is facing two counts of invasion of privacy in the incident. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office also says that Mejia was allegedly in possession of suspected child pornography. He is facing more charges related to that.
Heather Delaney says that her teenage daughter Madison was one of the women that Mejia allegedly recorded. Delaney wrote on Facebook that she, her daughter and her mother were in the Barnes & Noble on Wednesday afternoon and that Madison went to use the restroom.
Delaney wrote that Madison started to send her texts that someone was in the stall next to her, filming her. Delaney said that she went into the bathroom and noted that the stall looked empty, but said that she then noticed a shadow of a person perched on top of the toilet.
Delaney and a store employee started to bang on the stall door to get the person to come out.
“The door opened and the person stepped into my view… my heart sank as I saw a middle-aged Spanish man exit the stall. I started to cry,” Delaney wrote.

Delaney says that her daughter checked the stalls when she went into the bathroom and said that she seemed to be alone.
A spokesperson for Barnes & Noble says in a statement, "We were disturbed to learn of the incident that happened Wednesday in our store. When store employees were alerted to the situation, they immediately notified the police, and the suspect was apprehended."
The statement continued, “We thank the police for their quick work, and we will continue to cooperate fully as they investigate. We take security very seriously and are as vigilant as possible in making our stores safe and inviting for customers."
Mejia is being held at the Passaic County Jail. A court hearing is scheduled for Feb. 26.
