Authorities: 2 incidents prompt separate lockdowns at Union High School Friday
Two incidents prompted officials to issue two separate lockdowns at Union High School on Friday.
The Union County Prosecutor’s Office says that the first lockdown happened Friday morning when two students were caught with dangerous items inside of the school - a knife and a hammer. The students were taken out of school and the lockdown was lifted, according to officials.
The prosecutor’s office then says that a few hours later another lockdown was in place due to a rumor that a student inside the school had a gun.
Officials say that as rumors spread about the incident, a large group of students ran out of the school, resulting in one student getting hurt in the rush.
A large variety of law enforcement agencies responded to the school because of this incident. The prosecutor says that the school as searched and no dangerous items were found inside.
The Union Police Department is investigating.
