Wildwood has returned to its usual quiet state for the winter months, just one day after President Donald Trump held a campaign rally, attracting tens of thousands of people to the shore community.
Mayor Pete Byron estimates a crowd of 25,000 people packed the areas surrounding the Wildwoods Convention Center. Many left chairs, clothing and blankets behind in the parking lot – items that were not allowed into the convention center.
The parking lot seemed to be very messy Wednesday morning, but volunteers and Wildwood Department of Public Works crews had all items cleared by the afternoon. Byron says that the items collected will be donated to church groups and other organizations for the needy.

The mayor says that the thousands of people gathered in the town Tuesday were all well-behaved, and said that the presidential visit left a positive impact in the city of Wildwood.
“Honestly, if it wasn't for an event like this, we would never have gotten the national exposure,” Byron said. “I think this will open a lot of eyes as to just what a great time we have down here and if you think this was super yesterday – you should come down in the summertime.”
The mayor said that the businesses who did open for the rally saw revenues equal to a Memorial Day weekend type crowd.
He also said that it is yet to be determined who will pay for the security and police once the final cost is established.
