The town of Sayreville has teamed up with ridesharing company Lyft to hopefully prevent any drunk driving-related tragedies on Super Bowl Sunday.
“On Super Bowl day, there are so many people out on the road,” says Chief John Zebrowski. “Traffic is increased, but also what increases is impaired drivers."
All thanks to an idea by police to reduce the number of drinking and driving incidents on Sunday, $5.00 will be taken off a one-direction Lyft ride within Sayreville from 2 p.m. until Monday at 4 a.m.
“With this participation with Lyft, it kind of takes away the driving part,” says Jeremy Berry, PBA President Local 98. “Let somebody else get you home safe."

Taverns and restaurants such as Bello's Family Restaurant at 1 Roosevelt Blvd. happily donated to help offset the costs, as did the Brandon Tyler Narleski Foundation.
Brandon was 19 when he graduated from Sayreville War Memorial High School back in 2013. Just a year later, he was tragically killed by a drunk driver.

"Every time they put that key in the ignition, they might think, well I'm close to my home,” says Lori Anniello Narleski, with the foundation. “My son, his life is taken so tragically, walking distance from our home."
Sayreville PBA also donated to help offset the costs of this first of its kind program.
When you use the Lyft app, you need to use the code: SAYREBOWL2020.
