A house fire in Edison killed two people and a dog on Wednesday afternoon.

Officials have not confirmed the identities of the victims, who according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office were found shortly after the fire.

The fire broke out at the house on Jill Court just after 2:20 p.m. The fire was under control within approximately a half-hour, according to the deputy fire chief.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital and died shortly after, the prosecutor's office said in a news release.

A window on the upper left side of the home appeared singed and without glass.

Portions of Walton Street, which runs perpendicular to Jill Court, were lined with emergency vehicles. Witnesses said they saw a young boy being pulled from the home.

Agencies called to the scene included the Edison Fire Department, the Edison Police Department, the Middlesex County Office of the Fire Marshal and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office. An investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.
