‘Goodnight Nobody’ premieres at Princeton’s McCarter Theater

A new play premiering in New Jersey tells the story of a reunion between high school friends that doesn’t go as planned.
Actress Dana Delany stars in “Goodnight Nobody,” premiering at Princeton’s McCarter Theater. Delany is known for television roles on “China Beach” and “Desperate Housewives.”
In “Goodnight Nobody,” Delany’s character’s son invites his friends for a stay at the family’s cabin. Relationships are put to the test between the friends and between the mother, who is a successful artist, and the son, who is a struggling one.
"So much of the play is about motherhood. And how it's almost impossible to be a mother. You're never, ever going to get it right. There's no way you're going to get it right,” Delany says. “And this character, Mara, has chosen to be a single mother. So that's another challenge in itself."
Delany says that she bases many of the characters she plays off of her own mother.
“I had a very interesting mother, so she’s a wealth of opportunity to draw from,” she says.
She says that she was drawn to the role of Mara because the character is an artist.
“I like women of this generation that were artists because they had to really work hard to get there,” she says. “Somebody who probably started in the ‘80s and Lower East Side and really had to fight among all the men that were going on.”
“Goodnight Nobody" runs through Feb. 9. Ticket information can be found on the McCarter Theater website.
