Herman Boone, coach who inspired ‘Remember the Titans’, dies at 84

Legendary high school football coach Herman Boone, who was immortalized by Denzel Washington in the 2000 movie "Remember the Titans," has died.

Alexandria City Public Schools made the announcement in a press release.

Herman Boone died at the age of 84 Wednesday following a battle with cancer.

Boone is famous for leading the newly integrated T.C. Williams High School football team to victory in the 1971 Virginia State Championship.

According to ACPS, Boone's wife died back in April of this year.

Boone is survived by two daughters.
