Large fire breaks out at Woodbridge recycling plant

Posted: Updated:

A large fire that broke out at a Woodbridge recycling plant created a smoke plume that could be seen for miles.

Officials say that the fire started at the Bayshore Recycling plant in Woodbridge around 12:30 p.m. Monday. It was unclear how the fire started, but officials say that they believe that it started in the cardboard recycling storage area.

Fire departments from several nearby towns assisted in fighting the blaze. Fireboats pumped water out of the nearby Raritan River to douse the flames.

The smoke plume had mostly dissipated by 4 p.m. but crews remained on scene to extinguish hotspots.

No injuries were reported and no homes were damaged.
