Gov. Murphy to hold Hanukkah celebration in aftermath of Jersey City shooting

Posted: Updated:

Gov. Phil Murphy is hosting Jewish and faith leaders in Princeton for a Hanukkah celebration on Sunday.

The gathering comes just five days after a fatal shooting at a Jersey City kosher supermarket.

Murphy was in Jersey City at a church service less than a mile from the store earlier in the day. The event will take place at Drumthwacket, Murphy's official residence.

Earlier Saturday, the FBI attested that Ahmed A-Hady, a Keyport pawn shop owner and charged him with illegal firearm possession. He was charged with illegally possessing six rifles including three AR-15s, three handguns, a shotgun and 400 rounds of ammunition.

Since A-Hady is a convicted felon due to a 2012 drug charge, he cannot legally own a firearm.

The guns were not used in the shooting but it's still not known where the shooters obtained three of the five weapons they used on Tuesday.
