New cultural center to inspire collaborations with Brooklyn institutions

A new cultural center is coming to Brooklyn.
The city's Economic Development Corporation and Department of Cultural Affairs broke ground on Wednesday at the L-10 Arts and Cultural Center in Fort Greene.
The 50,000-square-foot space will soon be home to several cultural institutions -- acting as a place to inspire collaboration.
The L-10 arts and cultural center will host activities and performance space for the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts, three cinemas, additional spaces for the Brooklyn Academy of Music, a new branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, and rehearsal studios and performance space for 651 artists.
This center also officially marks the completion of the entire BAM South Tower project, which has brought affordable housing, jobs and community space to the neighborhood.
Local leaders, artists and other community members celebrate these diverse organizations coming together. They say the center will be another world-class cultural hub in Brooklyn.
Construction has officially begun and is expected to be completed in about two years.
