More than 70,000 passengers a day are expected to pass through security checkpoints at Newark Liberty International airport through Thanksgiving, and TSA officers want the lines to move smoothly.
Officers demonstrated this morning what foods you can bring on the plane, and what foods you have to get checked into your luggage.
If the food is liquid, it needs to be checked, where as if it's solid, you can bring it on the plane with you. A bottle of wine can even come along as long as it's in your checked bag.
According to TSA agents, people not knowing the rules can add to the delays at security check points, and with this many people flying, it's best to know before you go.
"If you can spray it, spread it, spill it, pump it or pour it, then it should go into a checked bag,” says TSA spokesperson Lisa Farbstein. “TSA is active on social media. We have a Twitter account. Ask TSA. You can send us a picture of the item, state what the item is, if it can go in your carry-on or checked bag or neither."
TSA is also active on Facebook messenger if you want to write and ask them your questions.
Farbstein also says while you are waiting in the security line ready to pass through the metal detector, empty your pockets into your carry-on bag. The number one thing left behind in one of the bins is keys and identification.
