Injured Iraq War veteran from NJ gets mortgage-free home

Posted: Updated:

An injured veteran of the Iraq War received a mortgage-free home thanks to Wells Fargo and the Military Warriors Support Foundation.

Former Army Spc. Michael Shelton spent years in the Army Reserve and National Guard. He was deployed to Iraq in 2006 and was injured. He received a Purple Heart for his service.

Shelton says that now he can start a new chapter of his life in his new home in Egg Harbor Township.

"It’s exciting, I'm shaking a little bit. It's exciting, it's happiness. It's knowing that now I have a stable place, that I'm not shipping out anymore. Now I have a home to come home to. I have a flag out front, which is my ultimate goal is to have a flag in front of my house,” he says.

Military Warriors Support Foundation has awarded more than 1,000 mortgage-free homes to veterans, Gold Star spouses and their families since 2010.
