Ice skaters in Brooklyn are upset over the delayed opening of the rink at the Lefrak Center in Prospect Park.
The rink was supposed to open a month ago and skaters say they do not understand why it has not opened for the season yet.
News 12 spoke with a professional ice skating coach who uses the facility to teach classes. Allison Johnston says the rink not being open is impacting her ability to teach.
"It's nerve-wracking," Johnston says. "One, it's the want to get back on the ice and practice and two, it's just a part of people's annual routine. They look forward to this. They're really disappointed that their plans for the season are falling through."
Several skaters told News 12 that they have tried contacting staff at the Lefrak Center but have gotten no answers.
News 12 reached out to the Lefrak Center, which said in part, "Due to a combination of unseasonable weather and adjustments to the mechanical system, this work was delayed beyond our originally slated opening date. However, ice making has now begun and we expect the ice to be ready for skating next week."
Representatives for the center say they will have more information on the opening later this week.
