A police officer shot and injured an “aggressive” pit bull Monday morning in Lakewood.
Police say that officers were dispatched to the Pine Acres Estates near Erica Road for reports of a dog running loose in the area. Police say the officers got to the area and found a pit bull acting “aggressively” toward them, as well as to a nearby golden retriever.
Police say that the golden retriever ran into the backyard of a home and that Officer Cameron Rose feared that the pit bull would go after the other dog. Rose reports that when the pit bull turned his aggression on him, he retreated to his police cruiser. But police say that the dog continued to come at Rose while “growling and snarling,” so Rose fired one shot at the dog, hitting it.
The dog was taken to an animal hospital for treatment. Its condition was not clear.
