Police search for driver in Deer Park hit-and-run that left man dead

Police are searching for the driver who left a man dead in a hit-and-run in Deer Park Monday.
The crash happened on Grand Boulevard and Deer Park Avenue just before 3 p.m. Police say Robert Donohue, 51, was crossing Deer Park Avenue eastbound when he was struck by a pickup truck heading southbound. They say the driver kept going.
"I'm just devastated at the loss of my son," says the victim's mother Eileen Donohue.
Detectives say they believe a dark-colored, four-door pickup truck was involved in the fatal crash. Prior to that, police say a dark-colored pickup was involved in a hit-and-run with a Ford Explorer on Deer Park and Long Island avenues, two blocks north. The pickup truck in the first crash has been recovered. Detectives are investigating if it is the same pickup in the fatal hit-and-run.
Donohue says her son was on his way to the Deer Park Library, which is just 10 minutes from their home. Donohue says her son was her life and hopes the person responsible comes forward.
Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
