Suffolk PD: Lake Grove Whole Foods armed carjacker arrested

A Shirley man who allegedly carjacked a woman in a Lake Grove Whole Foods parking lot was arrested at his home Thursday night, according to Suffolk police.

Police say Shane Williams, 28, approached Stephanie Rodriguez's 2008 Chrysler Sebring in the parking lot on Monday night and asked for directions. He then allegedly pulled a gun on her and told her to exit the vehicle.
Rodriguez says that Williams then took off with her car, wallet and house keys.

An investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department led them to the home at 137 East Parkview Drive, where they arrested Williams. He was charged with robbery and grand larceny.

Chief Stuart Cameron told News 12 that surveillance images and Crime Stoppers tips helped detectives track down the alleged carjacker.

Rodriguez says she is glad they caught the suspect, but the carjacking has destroyed her sense of security.

"I don't like going out in public by myself anymore because it's scary," she says.

Williams is being held at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned in Central Islip Saturday.

Rodriguez, 28, of Lake Grove, was not injured during the incident. Her stolen vehicle has not yet been recovered.
