The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a public health alert for multiple raw non-intact beef products, including ShopRite brand boxes of frozen hamburger patties, that were recalled because they may be contaminated with E. coli.

According to the FSIS, the products were derived from imported beef from Ryding-Regency Meat Packers, Ltd. In Ontario, Canada.

The FSIS is amplifying the recall through a public health alert.

The meat was used in products shipped to 10 states, including New Jersey.

Consumers are being urged to throw the products away, or return them to the place of purchase.

E. coli is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and in the most severe cases, kidney failure.
