Wednesday's bomb cyclone storm left thousands of residents in several Connecticut towns and cities without power, officials say.

The storm knocked down trees and wires throughout Connecticut and caused some roads such as Indian Field Road in Greenwich to be blocked off.

According to News 12 meteorologists, wind gusts during the storm reached over 50 mph which caused more than 40 roads to be impacted.

Greenwich and Trumbull schools had a 2-hour delay on Thursday morning due to the storm.

A bomb cyclone happens when there is a pressure drop of 24mb or greater within a 24 hour period. Simply put, it was a rapidly intensifying storm, and the large drop in pressure attributed to the high winds even after the storm had passed.
