A viewer named Kelly tells News 12 her 5-year-old son threw a crab line, with no bait and just a sinker, into a lagoon in Lavallette – and hooked a 300-pound sunfish.
The catch happened Sunday at a lagoon in Ocean Beach III.
Kelly tells News 12 the line hooked the massive sunfish reported earlier in the week in Ortley Beach, which at first, the family thought was a rotten boogie board.
The family tied a rope around the fish to pull it to the open bay.
When the family got to the bay, the fish regained some energy and began pulling their canoe.
They let it go and it swam away.
The kids named it "Crabline the Tired Fish".
