Posted: Updated:

The Crossroads Theatre in New Brunswick will honor actor Denzel Washington as a living legend later this month.

The theater recently reopened at its new location at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center.

Washington will attend the gala honoring him on Oct. 19. The Academy Award-winner will receive the theater's first-ever Ossie Davis-Ruby Dee Living Legends award for his excellence in film, theater and being a mentor to other artists.

Crossroads produces plays and musicals focused on African American culture. It was founded by local artists 41 years ago.

The event will be held at the State Theatre in New Brunswick where Washington will accept the award. There will be other celebrity appearances and special performances.

Ticket information can be found on the Crossroads Theatre website.
