Police investigate reports of kitten abused by group of boys

The Lakewood Police Department is investigating reports that a kitten was abused by a group of young boys in town.
A spokesperson for the police department says that officers have spoken to one of two good Samaritans who discovered the injured kitten while walking down Laurel Avenue about four days ago.
Police say that the woman told police that she saw a group of younger boys gathered around a kitten. Police say she feared that the boys were hurting the cat, so she ran towards them, causing them to run away.
The woman and another Lakewood resident found the injured kitten and one person agreed to take in the kitten, while the other called the authorities. But police say that as of Thursday, they have not received any official report regarding the incident.
Authorities say that the good Samaritan who took the cat in then contacted Calling All Cats, a local animal rescue group. The kitten was then examined by veterinarians at the Barnegat Animal Clinic.
