Trump calls ‘BS’ on probe as poll shows 44% in favor of impeachment

Posted: Updated:

President Donald Trump let the world know exactly how he feels into the ongoing impeachment inquiry surrounding his presidency as a new poll shows that the number of people in favor of impeachment is rising.

“The Do Nothing Democrats should be focused on building up our Country, not wasting everyone’s time and energy on BULL****,” the president wrote in part, only he did not use asterisks for his expletive.

Trump also tweeted that Democrats will need a better candidate in the 2020 election.

The impeachment inquiry ordered by Speaker Nancy Pelosi is intended to investigate what happened during a phone call with Trump and the president of Ukraine. An anonymous whistleblower brought to light the fact that the president may have asked the Ukrainian president to investigate Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden in a quid pro quo situation.

Trump previously commented about the whistleblower on Twitter and demanded to know the person’s identity.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff calls the president's tweets about the whistleblower a "blatant effort to intimidate witnesses."

"We are concerned that the White House will attempt to stonewall our investigation much as they have stonewalled other committees in the past,” Schiff says. “It's why I said the White House needs to understand that any action like that, that forces us to litigate or have to consider litigation, will be considered further evidence of obstruction of justice."

Schiff says more evidence of obstruction could also lead to more articles of impeachment.

This all comes as a new poll from Monmouth University shows that 44% of Americans want the president impeached, while 52% do not. Those who want the House of Representatives to conduct an impeachment inquiry rose to 49% - up 8 points since August.

“Now we have more people saying, ‘Yeah, you need to go ahead with this inquiry,’ even though the impeachment number itself isn't higher than it has been in the past overall,” says Patrick Murray with the Monmouth University Polling Institute. “I think that's the key - that people have now opened the door to saying, ‘You know, what he's done deserves a look but you haven't convinced me yet definitely that impeachment is the way to go.’”

Trump holds a 41% job approval rating in that same poll.
