A man is in critical condition following a police-involved shooting in Trenton, officials say.

It happened around 4 p.m. in the 1900 block of Calhoun Street. The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office says a Trenton officer was involved in an encounter with an "an adult male suspect that resulted in the adult male being shot."

The man, whose identity was not released, was hospitalized in critical condition.

Authorities say a preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect was armed.
